With the three major backgrounds of environment, energy and policy, more and more users are choosing EVs, along with the problem of EV safety, there are often news reports of so-and-so EVs spontaneously combusting on the road or exploding when charging. EV charging requires charging cable to connect EV and charging infrastructure, EV charging cable is usually exposed to outdoor use for a long time, and may be affected by natural environment while being damaged by human, therefore, the environment of use also puts forward more strict requirements on EV charging cable material and its performance. So, what materials are available for EV charging cables and how to choose the materials for EV charging cables?
EV charging cables usually need to have the performance of high and low temperature resistance, oil resistance, water resistance, flame retardant, tear resistance, insulation, UV aging resistance, etc. The common cable sheath and insulation materials on the market now are TPE, PVC, TPU, etc. Now FAFA-E, the EV cable manufacturer, will elaborate the characteristics of these three materials for you.
TPE: also called thermoplastic elastomer, both plastic and rubber characteristics, is an energy-saving and environmentally friendly material, TPE cable processing process is relatively simple, the price is moderate, the overall cable is relatively soft, basically can meet the requirements of the existing standards. However, the temperature resistance is poor, oil resistance is poor, weather resistance is also poor, thermal stability is poor, and the risk of cracking in outdoor use is relatively high.
PVC: also known as polyvinyl chloride plastic, lighter material, with good acid and alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, mechanical strength is good, but the burning performance is not good, there will be irritating gas released when burning.
TPU: also known as thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer, is a more environmentally friendly materials, with high strength, high toughness, wear resistance, oil resistance and other excellent overall performance, good processing performance, good aging resistance, but this material is more difficult to process and higher prices.
FAFA-E produces both European standard and American standard EV charging cables, our American standard UL62 cables use mostly TPE or PVC for sheathing and insulation, while European standard EN50620, IEC62893 cables use TPU for sheathing.
FAFA-E has a strategic cooperation with OMG, the world's leading EV cable manufacturer, to provide EV charging cables of various standards. If you have EV cable needs, please contact us at Sale@fafa-e.com
