The IEC 61851-1 standard for electric vehicle charging was published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which specifies four charging modes for electric vehicles: Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3 and Mode 4.
Mode 1: This is a charging method that connects the EV to a standard outlet on the AC power supply network, using a standard cable and charging plug, by plugging the charging cable directly into a household AC outlet. This mode cannot establish communication with the vehicle directly, so the maximum current intensity, voltage and temperature during charging cannot be confirmed. The charging mode is basically eliminated due to the lack of protection measures, which can easily cause the circuit breaker to trip and the possibility of fire house and electric shock risk.
Mode 2: This mode adds ICCB control box compared to mode 1, with control guidance function and personal electric shock protection system, integrated in the connection cable between the standard plug and EV, which can communicate with the vehicle, with the vehicle charging is generally used in this mode. FAFA-E specializes in 16A mode 2 portable charger, with LED screen + indicator structure, which is conducive to real-time grasp of the electric vehicle The electronic anti-theft design, after parking and charging and locking the vehicle, the vehicle can automatically lock the gun, applicable to a variety of charging environments, easy to carry and convenient to store.
Mode 3: Electric vehicles are charged with specific equipment that can be permanently connected to the AC power network and integrated with protection and control functions. This mode has no adapter for the charger and the AC charging post itself provides protection. A guide wire is added inside the charging cable that allows communication between the vehicle and the charging device through standard protocols. The control function manages the vehicle's charging cycle and can optimize power consumption according to the user's needs, improving charging safety while increasing charging speed to some extent. AC charging posts and wall-mounted charging boxes use mode 3.
Mode 4: This is a fast charging mode, which is done through EV DC power supply equipment, connected to AC or DC power supply network. This charging mode is usually set up in fast charging stations with charging current up to 250A or even higher, so the charging speed is also the fastest among the four modes. This mode has higher requirements for charging cables, requiring thicker wire diameter cables, and the products need to meet the performance requirements of high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, wear resistance, anti-cracking, flame retardant, etc. Choosing certified products is more quality assurance.
